Robert Towne Obituary

AMHERST TOWNSHIP – Robert Elmer Towne, 74 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, following a brief illness.
He was born May 30, 1940, in Amherst, Ohio. Elmer was a lifetime resident of Amherst Township, graduating from Central High School with the class of 1958.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Elmer was employed as a rigger at Beaver Park Marina South in Lorain for twenty years. He also worked and rode competitively with the Penton Motorcycles family. Elmer was a member of the American Legion Post #118, Amherst Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1442, and the Amvets Post #22 in Vermilion. His hobbies included tending to his large garden, which was over an acre, wine making, and traveling in his motor home. Elmer enjoyed taking care of his dogs and attending all family functions.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-six years Kathie Towne (nee: Stashick); his brothers Ronald "Muzzy" Towne (Arlene) of Amherst and Charles "Charlie" Towne (Charlcie) of Medina; sisters Claudia Moore of Amherst and Marie Clotz ("Chip"); as well as many nieces and nephews .
He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Piwinski and by his parents Claude E. and Theresa M. Towne (nee: Piwinski), and nephew Danny Moore and brother in law Gerald Moore.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Military Honors will be performed by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard at 8:00 p.m. Private interment will take place at a later date.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
