John "Scott" Dunlap Obituary
J. Scott Dunlap, a lifelong resident of Amherst, went home to be with his Lord and Savior July 11, 2018 at the New Life Hospice Residence Center while surrounded by his family that he cherished to the end.
Scott was born in 1943 and graduated from Marion L. Steele High School before attending Lorain County Community College.
He was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Air Force where he served as a Russian linguist stationed in Pakistan. Stateside, Scott retired from BF Goodrich after 31 years as a lab technician. He attended Amherst Church of the Nazarene where he started a new journey with Christ about a year ago.
One of his greatest pleasures was being a member of the Amherst Fire Department for 31 years during which time he served as Captain and later as Fire Inspector for the city of Amherst.
His all time greatest passion was his family, grandchildren, and great-grandsons. He was known as the "caretaker" because he felt it was his responsibility to take care of them all which he did. Spending time with those he loved, especially while fishing, was always a highlight.
Scott is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Marsha Dunlap (nee: Hutton); his sons, Thomas (Lynn) of Medina, Todd of Amherst; daughter, Tricia A. Chervenak of Amherst; grandchildren, Alexis Fitzpatrick, Jessica Dunlap, James Chervenak, Caitlin Dunlap, and Sarah Dunlap; and his great-grandsons, Caleb and Benjamin Fitzpatrick.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Dunlap; and his parents, Ralph E. And Lila Jane Dunlap (nee Pumphrey).
Friends may call Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 6 p.m. at Amherst Church of the Nazarene, 210 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. The Rev. Rich Henry, Chaplain of the Amherst Fire Department, will officiate.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Mercy New Life Hospice for all the great care and compassion given to Scott, 3500 Kolbe Rd., Lorain OH 44053 or to a memorial fund to be set up at Amherst Church of the Nazarene, 210 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst OH 44001.
For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home's website to share a memory and sign the guest register, www.hempelfuneralhome.com.
