Terry Simmons Obituary
Staff Sergeant (Ret.), Terry Simmons, 53, of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2018. Born on February 16, 1964, in Lorain, Ohio where he grew up, Terry accepted Christ at an early age. Terry was a graduate of Clearview High School class of 1983, where he played varsity basketball and ran track. After graduation, Terry joined the Army and spent nine years on active duty as an (19K30) Armor Crewmember.
Terry was a 25 year employee with the Ohio Department of Corrections, where he was an active member of the Department of Corrections Honor Guard. Terry then served another ten plus years with the Ohio National Guard 641st QM Detachment and the HSTB 371st Sustainment Brigade. His military assignments included three tours in Iraq, Hawaii, Thailand, and multiple countries in Europe. In 2012 he retired from the military with over 20 years of service. During his time in the military, he was able to see the world and visit over 20 countries.
He leaves behind to mourn his loss, five brothers, Kurt (Donna) Simmons, Maurice (Cynthia) Simmons, and Lowell "Chucky" (Carmen) Simmons, all of Lorain, Jeff (Renee) Simmons and Kenny (Andrea) Simmons of Columbus, and only sister, Selma (Louis "Bamm") Monroe of Blythewood, South Carolina; aunts, Betty Simms of New Jersey, Shirley Simmons of Dayton, and Peggy Woods of Amherst; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Leona (Woods) Simmons.
Viewing will be Friday, February 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, February 17 from 10 a.m. until time of a Homegoing Service beginning at 11 a.m. All services will be at Faith Ministries, 1306 Euclid Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052. Elder Ruth Ann Pugh will officiate with Pastor Kurt Simmons as eulogist. Burial with military honors will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
