Opal I. Griffith (nee: Fraley), 88 years of age, and a resident of Oberlin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a full and meaningful life.
She was born December 2, 1930, in Stephens, Kentucky. Opal had made her home in Lorain since 1953, before moving to Oberlin in 2016, where she had resided until her passing.Her primary focus in life was that of a homemaker.
At one point, she was employed at Millers Orchard and Spiegelberg Orchard.
Opal was a member of West Ridge Baptist Church in Amherst. Her hobbies included crocheting and tending to her rose garden. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Opal loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Rodger D. Griffith (Sharon), of Amherst, V. Michael Griffith (Joyce), of Taylorsville, Kentucky, and Rodney K. Griffith (Sandy), of Oberlin; her daughter, Sandra C. Strohsack (Joseph), of Oberlin; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; her brother, Rev. Bill Fraley (Bessie), of Oberlin; her sisters, Della French and Faye Garrity (John), both of Clark County, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Betty Fraley, of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her her husband of 60 years, Virgil Griffith, on March 22, 2007; her son, Ronald W. Griffith; her brothers, Rev. Carson Fraley, Tenneson Fraley; her sisters, Claris Shade and Beatrice Fraley; and her parents, Wallace and Gracie Fraley (nee: Terry).
Friends may call Tuesday, December 4, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at West Ridge Baptist Church, 46280 Telegraph Road, Amherst. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
