Dorothy Ellen Gore

Died: June 25, 2020; in Morris, IL

Dorothy Ellen Gore, 88, of Morris, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Park Pointe Healthcare in Morris. Born September 25, 1931 in Pontiac, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late George Townsend and Gladys Viola (Gee) Gore.

Dorothy attended Pontiac Grade School and after moving to Morris, was a graduate of the Morris High School, Class of 1949. She attended Milliken University and graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She was a Home Economist for Marshall Field's Kitchens and the Continental Coffee Co. in Chicago. She later worked as an insurance agent for the Gore Insurance Agency from 1980 to 1990. Dorothy was passionate about photography, travel and theatre. She won many awards for her photography of her travels and local scenes and events. She traveled to Europe, Asia (China, India and Thailand), Mexico, North and South America. She was a volunteer with the Chicago Saints, ushering at theatres in the Chicago area. She was member of the Morris First Presbyterian Church, the Morris Camera Club, the Downers Grove Camera Club, the Chicago Area Camera Clubs and Friends of the Library in Morris. She had also been a member of the Home Economists in Business in Chicago and the Business & Professional Women in Morris.

Dorothy had been a resident of The Gardens of Park Pointe since April 2017. A special "Thank You" to the staff of the Gardens for their wonderful care of Dorothy and to Park Pointe and Joliet Area Hospice for her care the last few weeks.

Dorothy is survived by her niece Ann (Brett) Goodwin; great nephews Joshua and Ryan of Waldron, Indiana; nephew George Gore; sister in law Marion Gore and good friend Debbie Steffes of Morris.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother Arthur George Gore, January 7, 2019.

Memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to the American Cancer Society or to the First Presbyterian Church in Morris.

A graveside service for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 10:30 am at Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, officiated by Rev. Dr. Roy Backus.
