Steve Roszel Obituary

Steve Roszel
Born: February 1, 1941
Died: March 12, 2021
Steve Roszel, 80, of Marseilles passed away Friday March 12, 2021, with his daughters by his side.
Steve was born February 1, 1941 in Hutchinson, KS to Etta C Mills Roszel and George J Roszel. He wed his high school sweetheart Jacquelin M. Wilson of Casper in January of 1961, raised two daughters, Tammie and Katie. Jackie transitioned to her final resting place on their 43rd wedding anniversary January 17, 2004. Steve met, then wed Shirley Sibigtroth in February 2007.
His passion, dedication, and strong work ethic started at an early age with his first job delivering newspapers and continued to grow with his jobs as a surveyor, motor cyclist and mechanic, finally settling on the trade of an accomplished proud union pipe fitter. He worked as a member of the Chicago Local 597 Pipefitters, where he helped to construct several nuclear power plants in the area. During his life, he put his craftsmanship to the test, constructing many things some of which include raising a barn, making a teepee, pickup camper, kayak, building his own log cabin home and enjoying as many outdoor activities he could with his family and friends. He eventually moved back to Wyoming, where he was able to share all things cowboy and Western with his wife Shirley before finally returning to Illinois.
Steve was deeply passionate about the legacy he left through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved teaching them about life through shared experiences and stories. He was a proud man, who worked hard to learn new skills and conquer projects on his own before seeking help. He believed getting one's hands dirty was the best way to learn. His passion for the Western way of life was demonstrated through his love of horses, hunting, archery, and shooting. He participated in SASS single action shooting with his brother John Roszel, grandson Douglas and daughter Tammie and was skilled at making his own ammunition. He had respect for the land and animals who roamed freely. He only took what he was going to use and always advocated to leave the land better than when he started. He was known as one of four master story tellers in his family and always loved to share with all who would lend an ear. Those stories are the foundation of his legacy, which will continue to be passed down for generations to come.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Roszel; his daughters, Tammie (Bill) Pulak of Marengo and Katie (Randy) Herman of Morris; his grandchildren, Steve (Kendra) Herman of Seneca, Matt (Amber) Herman of Ottawa, Clint (Delaney) Herman of Austin, Tx, Doug Pulak of DeKalb, and Jackie Pulak of Sycamore; and 4 great grandchildren with one more on the way. Also survived by his brothers, John and Tom Roszel and their families.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Etta; father, George J; brother, George F; and first wife, Jaquelin Wilson Roszel. Steve's parting words to family and friends were always, "Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline and watch your topknot".
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials be made in his name to the Hospice organization Journey Care, that provided comfort and care to Steve and his family during his final life transition. 100% of the donations go to support family's facing similar struggles that are less fortunate. https://journeycare.org/journeycare-foundation/memorial-giving/....
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 27, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Steve's Life at 11:00 am.
