Patricia A. Van Dyke, 82, Cardington, was called home by the Lord she loved, on Monday, April 25, 2016 at OSU Medical Center, Columbus.
Pat was born Aug. 1, 1933 in LaRue, OH to the late Norman D. and Mary Evelyn (Shirea) Showers.
She had worked for 15 years at the Morrow County Hospital, as a nurse's aide, where she touched many lives. When the Morrow County Specialty Center opened, she began work there in the Physical Therapy Dept.
On Nov. 25, 1967, she married the love of her life, Art Van Dyke, at the old 3R's Restaurant, Mt. Gilead, OH. Together they created a large family, a true blending of, "yours, mine, ours & theirs," that not only included their combined children, but children that they shared in raising and held a special place in her heart, bringing the grand total to 19. Art preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2002.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dale & Patty Gail Baker, Becky Welch & Alan Baker, Marion; David & Becky Baker, Galion; Mike Baker, Gary Van Dyke, June & Doug Graham, Cardington; Holly Van Dyke, Marengo, Kenny & Sharon Van Dyke, Cardington; Danny & Janet Van Dyke, Sparta; Darrell & Melissa Van Dyke and Trisha & Steve Roush, Mt. Gilead; Kathy & Tom Dickison, Janie Pinciotti, JackieRockwell, Florida and Peggy Riggs, Mt. Gilead; sisters, Mary Dale & Art Goble, Alabama; Kaye & Rich Childree, Arizona; Pam & Paul Gubernath-Hazelwood, Texas; Michele & Jim Leber, North Carolina and Marcia & Wren Mayo, Southern Ohio; 48 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren with two on the way & 5 great-great-grandchildren; & numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents & husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters and son-in-law, Regina & Ed Wein & Penny Etue; son Tommy Joe Van Dyke; grandchildren, Melissa Adams, Ronald Welch Jr., Brandon Van Dyke & Garrett Harris.
Friends may call on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center St. in Cardington where the services will begin at 1:00 PM. The burial will follow in Butter Cemetery, SR 61 Marengo.
The family asks that you join them in a Celebration of Life dinner at the Pavilion of the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, OH following graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mt. Gilead, Ohio 43338.
