Rogers Jackson Francis passed away on October 25, 2017 at the age of 89. He was born in Winnsboro, Louisiana on October 18, 1928. During high school, he played trombone in the band, was active as a thespian and played football. In 1946, he joined the Marine Corps where he served until 1948; then joined the inactive reserves and attended Louisiana Tech. During the Korean conflict in 1950, he was called to duty and stationed at the Marine Corps Supply Depot in San Francisco. There, he met and married his wife, Beverly, and upon discharge attended Louisiana State University and earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering. After graduation, he began his 35 year career with the Continental Oil Company (CONOCO) which included postings in Fort Worth, Hobbs, Bowie, Ozona, Odessa, Midland, New Orleans, Anchorage, Ventura, Houston and Calgary. After retiring on January 1, 1991, he moved to Spokane, Washington, then to Bountiful, Utah and lived there until he lost his wife of 50 years to cancer in 2002. After her death, he moved to Mesquite, Nevada, where the two had acquired a winter home. In 2014, he moved to The Forum in the Woodlands, near his son Michael and daughter-in-law Debbie. He was avid golfer for most of his life. He also enjoyed hiking and camping. His artistic gifts included painting, carpentry, woodcarving, and photography. Late in life after his wife's death, he took up line dancing. He was also fond of animals, the last of which was his much-loved Maltese, Fancy. A loyal husband and father, he will be much missed by those he leaves behind, which include his daughter Melanie and her husband Thomas who live in Singapore; his son Michael and his wife Debbie who live in the Woodlands and their two children, Amanda who lives in Boise, Idaho and Tyler who lives in Bozeman, Montana.
