Glenn Smith Obituary

Reverend Glenn Smith was born January 1st, 1935, and passed after a short but valiant fight against complications from pancreatic cancer surgery on February 8th, 2010, in Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Midland. Graveside services will follow at 4pm at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland. Please join us in celebrating Glenn's life by visiting his memorial at www.mem.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. Glenn served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He attended and graduated from Baylor University Medical Center's School of Radiology. He was a PRCA rodeo cowboy and clown in earlier years before committing his life to the Lord at the age of 37 and becoming an ordained minister. Glenn is the granddad of the rodeo and other cowboy/cowgirl ministries. He was an apostle to the cowboy world, preaching Jesus to those who have never heard of Him. Signs, wonders, and miracles followed as the lost received Jesus as Savior and Lord, and churches started following his works. Glenn and his wife, Ann, were the pioneers and the first full-time ministers on the rodeo trail starting at PRCA rodeos. Later, from these cowboy church services began college, high school, youth, and senior pro rodeo services. The couple founded Rodeo Cowboy Ministries in the 1970's, also known as International Western World Outreach Center with headquarters in Midland, Texas. Glenn paved the way for other ministries. He preached at the first cowboy church service at the NFR with the PRCA Directors' approval in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and also many other rodeos. For 27 years they published "The Conqueror" Magazine/Newsletter teaching us how to overcome and be victorious in life. Glenn helped start Vaqueros En Cristo in Mexico and Rodeo Cowboy Ministries in Australia. This couple preached in Russia before the Iron Curtain first came down. They have preached at a lot of camp meetings on ranches over the years. Glenn never slowed down--he preached right to the end of his life and then went on to glory. Glenn is survived by wife of 50 years, Ann Smith; children: Ken Bryce and wife Carol, Carla Pledger and husband Zack, Bunny Brookshear, Pam Thompson and husband Charles, and Kay Silver and husband Sterling; grandchildren: Justin, Travis and Ashley Bryce, Jeff Pledger and wife Michelle, Cody Pledger and wife Amanda and Brian Pledger and wife Sara, Leigh Thompson, and Nikki Brookshear; and great-grandchildren: Ethan Dishman, Blake, Wesley, Haley Aadin and Emilee Pledger and Ava Rossin In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity or ministry. Dear Ann and family, So sorry to learn of your loss. Our family will keep you in prayer as the days ahead be kind to you. May the Holy Spirit continue to lift and sustain you. A special prayer from our Autistic Son that Glen prayed for at Prime Time, years ago. Dr.'s said He'd never walk or talk--but prayers from people like our "Glen Smiff"-He's 21 and thriving. We love you Ann and Glen.

Ann and Family my prayers and thoughts are with you for the loss of Glenn. I loved him dearly. Back in the days of when he preached at Tom Figgs home we all just fell in love with him and loved listing to his preaching. He made us laugh but his preaching would go straight to the soul. He changed many lives and a lot of souls got saved by his devotion of him preaching the word of God!I know he is riding his horse up in heaven. I loved his horse stories! Last time I saw him was when you both came to my brother Dewayne's funeral and Glenn did the burial ceremony. I heard angels through the wind that day. I will miss Glenn and our whole family are mourning the loss of a true cowboy that preached from the heart! May god bless you and give you strength.

Love, Melinda (Casabonne) Jones

Ann and family,
I don't have enough words to express my condolences to you all, and wishing I could give you a big hug!
What a privilege to have known Glenn all these years, and to see the fruits of your rodeo ministries. I sure enjoyed the recent flight we shared from Gillette to Ft Collins, and that short chance to visit.
God Bless

Dear Ann,

May the Lord Bless you and keep you in his arms.
I was saddened by the news of Glen’s death. But I know where he is now.
I remember all the good times we had at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
You never knew what Glen would do next.
I am sorry that I didn’t make the effort to keep in touch with you two.
I had just asked Betty Morgan a couple of weeks ago if she had heard anything of the Glen Smiths lately.
What a ministry you two have had.

Ann,
I want you to know that you and Glenn are one of the gifts that God has blessed me and Bryan with. I have never known anyone before or since that truly put others first. You exhibited that tonight, when , in the midst of your grief, you asked if we needed anything or if we needed prayer. You are an awesome warrior of God. You both reached that spiritual center in me and for that I will be eternally grateful. If you ever, ever need anything, please call. I will do everything in mine and God's power to be there for you. I also want you to know that in my darkest moments, I prayed for a marriage like yours. You are the strongest woman I know and I know that God will take the greatest care of you. (otherwise Glenn will whoop him!) It comforts me to know that Glenn has a new audience for his jokes and I believe he is slapping his knee right this minute because he told a good one.
We love you and pray Gods blessings over you and your very large, extended family--all of the people that you both touched.

My Dearest Ann and Family,

There are no words to express how I feel in my heart about the love and truth that Glenn brought to the live of
me and my family. He was my Hero. I will truly miss his smile and little witty sayings, his stern and sometimes blunt words, but always, always words of wisdom, truth, and love. The geatest comfort comes from knowing that Glenn is now in the presence of our Lord and oh what a wonderful day
in heaven.

Miss Ann,
I love you and know that your loss is
more than I can imagine. My prayer for
you is strength and peace. You have a
big and beautiful family and I know they will take very good care of you.

May the Lord wrap His arms around you
and His love and peace will comfort you in this season.

Your Partner in Christ.

I would like to express my sincere and
deepest sympathy to you Ann and your
precious family. I was in shock when
I learned of the news that Glenn had
passed away at lunch on Monday. I think I just shut down for the rest of
the day. I started reflecting on all
the precious years of attending the
campmeetings at Fort Davis and all the
many other meetings at the McMullan's barn, the meeting room at the Truck Stop in Ozona and all the times that you and Glenn came to our little Cowboy Church in Big Lake. What precious memories and the powerful Word that was preached at each meeting. How I looked forward to each
meeting to grow in the Lord and see souls come to know Jesus as Lord and
Saviour. There will be untold souls in heaven because of your ministry and
your obedience and it will continue because of the churches started and all the many people called into full-time ministry. I
am so thankful for all the years of
teaching that helped me grow in my walk with Jesus and my children and now my precious grandchildren. Glenn is now really home and totally healed.
Heaven is rejoicing and he is making everyone laugh with his wonderful wit and humor. He always made me laugh and have such joy. My heart hurts for your loss because I know how he loved and dotted on his precious Ann. The love you had for him was so evident.
Please let the Lord comfort you as
only He can. Our time here is so short and I know we will rejoice when we get to heaven and he will be there to greet us. I know your pain and loss because I just recently lost my Mother. My heart is still very tender and I miss my Mother so very much. I know in time that we will both be healed in our grief and loss.
Please know that I love you very much and I have been praying for you and your family. My deepest love to you and your family.
