Cornelius Robinson passed away August 6, 2018 in Midland, Texas following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Cornelius was born to Emanuel Robinson, Sr. and Alice Robinson April 16, 1952 in Richmond Virginia. The youngest of four children, he was raised in Richmond where he attended George Mason Elementary School, East End Junior High, and Armstrong High School. After graduating from High School, he enrolled in Virginia State University where he graduated with honors earning a degree in geology. While in college, Cornelius worked for NASA during the summer, and upon graduating from VSU, he began his career as a petroleum geologist. His work as a geologist took him away from Virginia to Tulsa, Ok, Houston, TX and finally to Midland, Tx where he lived out his life. During his career, he worked for Sun Oil Company, Texas Oil and Gas Company and Phillips Petroleum Company. Cornelius met the love of his life, Helen Davis, in Midland and the two married February 12, 1977. They raised one beautiful daughter, Hershelyn Robinson. Cornelius loved life, and even while ill, he always had a smile on his face for others and was a testimony to the love and power of Jesus Christ. He attended The Word of Life New Testament church where he was a co-minister. Cornelius was a proud supporter of the Lee High School band and loved attending football games for both Lee and Midland High as well as Midland College basketball games. Cornelius was preceded in death by his parents, Emanuel Robinson, Sr. and Alice Robinson; a brother, Emanuel Robinson, Jr.; and a sister, Marie Robinson. He is survived by one brother, Joe Robinson of Richmond, VA, his beloved wife, Helen Robinson, and his cherished daughter Hershelyn Robinson, both of Midland, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A wake will be held Friday, August 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Avalos-Sanchez-Thomas Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the same location.
