Elizabeth Jane "Janie" Swinney, 73, of Midland, Texas joined her husband in heaven on Saturday, May 12, 2018. She was born January 16, 1945 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Joe Weldon and Bette Jo (Norris) Howard. Johnny and Janie were married February 12, 1965 and were married for 52 years before Johnny's passing in June 2017. They had two daughters, Stephanie and Tina. Janie was a stay at home mother for most of her girls lives which allowed her to be able to attend all of their extracurricular activities and chaperoned many trips. She became "mom" to many of their friends who to this day would ask about her. She played a special part in the lives of her nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. "Gran" leaves behind to cherish her memories: Stephanie Horn (Harvey Haase) and Tina Swinney (Quinton Walton) all of Midland; grandchildren: Jesseca Barstad (Eric) of Abilene Tx, Colby Horn of Midland Tx, Portia Traylor of Midland, Anna Guidry of North Richland Hills Tx, Jonathan Swinney (Farrah) of Shreveport La, Charles Haase of Midland Tx, Kayla Jurado (Iris) of Alexandria Va, and Michael Marsh of Midland Tx; great grandchildren: Chandler Marsh & Haileigh Cox both of Abilene TX and Eva Nixon and Junior Burgess both of Midland Tx; her brothers: Ed Howard (Kitty) of Wichita Falls, Tx and Dan Howard (Nita) of Lubbock Tx; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and her "sister, life friend, other self & partner in crime" Kathy Featheringill. Janie was preceded in death by: her husband of 52 years, Johnny; her parents, Bette and Jody Howard of Nocona Tx and her Brother Ronnie Howard and his wife Sandi of Sugarland Tx. Visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2018 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel, Texas. Service of remembrance will be Saturday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Trent United Methodist Church with burial following at Whitechurch Cemetery. Pall Bearers are nephews: Jay Swinney, Jon Chamberlain, Dub Howard, Jeff Howard, Kerry Patterson & Scott Adair; Honorary Pall Bearers are her grandchildren, whom brought much love, laughter and joy to her life.
