Ernesto Rivera passed away peacefully on Friday September 7th, 2018 at the age of 88 in Midland Texas. He was born on November 7, 1929 in Guanacevi, Durango, Mexico. In the early fifties, he arrived in the U.S. as part of the Bracero program before becoming a permanent resident and made his life in Verhalen, Texas in the Pecos Texas Valley.
Ernesto was a dedicated husband and father to his loving family and had a great sense of humor. He had a life-long love for the land and outdoors and spent his life as a farmer, raising cattle, sheep, goats, and horses to provide for his family, and he enjoyed helping others.
He was preceded in death by his father Jose Rivera, his mother Marianita, and 4 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife Bernabe of 64 years; children Victor Rivera and Hipolito Rivera of Midland, TX; Irene White (Michael) of Irving, TX; and Mario and fiancée Teresa Rangel of Grand Prairie, TX; grand-daughters Corena White of Ft. Worth, TX, Lindsey Rivera, and Cynthia McIntire of Midland, TX; and great-grand-daughter Sophia Rivera.
Viewing was held on Monday, September 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Avalos-Sanchez & Thomas Funeral Home Chapel, 1502 N. Lamesa Rd. Rosary was held Monday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m. at Avalos-Sanchez-Thomas Funeral Home. Mass will be held Tuesday, September 11th at St. Ann's Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Ernesto will be laid to rest at Resthaven North Cemetery in Midland, TX. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Avalos-Sanchez & Thomas Funeral Home.
