James Cherry Obituary

James (Tony) Cherry James (Tony) Cherry, 82, of Midland, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at home. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, November 5, 2010 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel. Interment will be at a later date. Tony was born April 12, 1928, in Mount Vernon, Texas to Nicie (Gipson) and Charles Cherry. He played football for Mount Vernon High School. He married Veleria McClure on December 3, 1949 in Rockwall. She preceded Tony in death on September 17, 1994. He served in the Army Air Corp and had retired from Mobil. He also worked for Parker & Parsley Petroleum. He had been a resident of Big Spring for 40 years, before moving and living in Midland for 4 years. Tony enjoyed playing dominos at the Senior Citizen's Center. His greatest passion was football. Survivors include daughter, Brenda Rose of Midland; daughter, Patricia Holcombe of Midland; grandchildren, David Rose of Raeford, North Carolina, Dustin and Heather Rose of Midland, and Laci Holcombe of Lubbock; great grandchildren, Whitney Connolly, Ashley Connolly and Shawn Connolly; and brother, John D. Cherry of Tucson, Arizona. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at: www.npwelch.com
