Graveside services for Lorenz Ira Shock, 91, of Lubbock will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

He passed away on February 27, 2007.

Lorenz Ira Shock was born November 17, 1915 in Okmulgee County, OK. He married Donna Powers on June 2, 1938 in Sapulpa, OK.

Lorenz graduated from OU with a Masters in Physics and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was a pioneer in the oil and gas industry as a geophysicist. He was the first President and Honorary Life Member of the Permian Basin Geophysical Society. Lorenz founded Midland Geophysical Company in 1953.

He retired in 1968 after serving as Executive Vice President of Teledyne Exploration, Houston, TX. They then moved to their ranch in Buena Vista, NM until 1980. Lubbock, TX became their home.

He was preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Donna Shock, brother, Cleon Shock, and grandson, Lance Long.

Survivors include two daughters and son, Marcille and Don Long of Ozona, Loretta and Ted Montgomery of Canyon, and Duane and Dianne Shock of Crosbyton, A brother, Vernon Shock and wife Annie Rose Shock of Midland, a sister, Adela Dean Murphy and husband, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
