Donald Gregory

Donald Gregory, 84, departed this life on January 24, 2009 in Checotah. Born on May 14, 1924 in Newton City, AR to John W. and Ardath (Edwards) Gregory.He served in the US Army as Staff Sergeant and Sharpshooter from December 1944 to September 1946 in the Philippines and during the occupation of Japan. Upon returning to the states Donald met Genevieve Fay Curtis, the love of his life, and on April 22, 1950 they were married. Donald retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation after sixteen years of service and has engaged in farming and ranching since moving to Oklahoma in 1957. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting all of his life but his true love was his family and spending time with them.Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife Genenieve and parents. He is survived by his two daughters and sons in law Linda Joyce "Terp" and Andrew Qualls of Oktaha, OK, Margaret LaVern "Marg" and Michael Christian of Oktaha, OK; three grandchildren Michele Dana Plunkett and husband John of Oktaha, Angela Joy Lawson and husband Robert of Eufaula, Ted R. "Squirrel" Newell IV and wife Tammy of Oktaha; nine great grandchildren Tobie, Amanda, Julie, James, Tylor, Isaiah Plunkett, McKayla "Tater" and Judah "Tuffy" Lawson and Madison Newell.Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 30, 2009 at Middleton Chapel Cemetery in Oktaha with Reverend Wendell Cox officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Larry George, Ricky George, Art Christian, Clayton Love, Ronnie Curtis and Danny Curtis.
