Myrl Potter

Myrl Lee Potter, 68, of Mt. Vernon, passed away December 5, 2017 at his home. He was born May 20, 1949 in Evansville, IN to Luther Myrl Potter and Dorothy (Mann) Bauer.

Myrl graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, Class of 1967. He graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 1971 and received his Masters of Education in 1973 from the University of Evansville. Myrl retired in 2004 after being a fourth grade teacher for 33 years at West Elementary School. In addition to being a teacher at West, he coached basketball, football, track and baseball.

Myrl's grandkids were the loves of his life. He instilled in them a love for nature, hunting, fishing and adventure. Myrl attended all of the many games his grandchildren played and was an avid supporter. He fostered a love of education, planning and learning in the grandkids and all of the kids he taught. His son, Mark was his best friend.

He was preceded in death by his father; son, Ryan Potter; and stepfather, Bob Bauer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cheryl (Brakie) Potter; son, Mark (Stephanie) Potter; mother, Dorothy; grandchildren, Kort, Maci and Maddox Potter; brothers, Tommy, Bruce (Joyce) and Randy (Patty) Bauer; sisters, Gayle Mooney and Lori (Paul) Axton; many nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service was held at 6:00 pm, Friday, December 8, 2017, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN, with Rev. Chris Millay officiating and burial to be held at a later date.

Visitation were held from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm service time on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to a college fund for Maci and Maddox Potter at Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union.
