Ronald Glenn "Ron" McMillan, 80, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, surrounded by his family at his home in Carrollton.
He was born Oct. 24, 1940, in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky, the son of the late Walter O. McMillan and Blanche May Huff McMillan. Ron, as most people knew him was a 1958 graduate of Walton – Verona High School. On March 24, 1962, Ron was united into marriage to the former Joan Bowman, and they have shared over 59 years of marriage together. He served his Country proudly in the United States Navy and the Naval Reserves.
Ron started his working career at the age of 15, packing groceries, and this turned into a long career of many years working as a meat cutter, manager, and a store owner, having retired at the Parkview IGA Grocery Store in Carrollton. Ron was of the Christian faith, involved with several Christian Churches throughout Carrollton over the years.
He was an avid golfer, a charter member of the Kentucky Kruizers Car Club, serving as past treasurer, and a charter member of the Carrollton Lion's Club. He had also served on the Carrollton Utilities Commission Board for over 23 years.
Ron will be missed by his wife, Joan Bowman McMillan of Carrollton; two sons, Shawn McMillan and his wife, Melissa of Walton and Chris McMillan and his wife, Candida of Carrollton; a brother, Gary McMillan and his wife, Leslie of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Pam Younger and her husband, Jerry of Crittenden, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Rauni Leos and her husband, Ryan of Walton; two great-grandchildren, Blayne and Riverlyn Leos of Walton; and his dear friend, David Flynn; along with five nephews; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Greg McMillan; and a nephew.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the English Cemetery in Carrollton. Anyone that would like to bring an antique car in the procession to the cemetery is welcome to in honor of him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Kentucky Kruizers Car Club or the Carrollton Lions Club in care of the funeral home.
