AGE: 91 • Parlin
Richard C. Hier, 91, of the Parlin section of Sayreville died Feb. 12, 2013 at his daughter's home in Parlin. Born in Newark, he lived in Parlin for the past 60 years. Before retiring, he was employed as a truck driver for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A life and charter member of the BPO Elks Lodge #784, South Amboy, he is a Past Exalted Ruler and District Deputy and served on the Special Children's Committee and the Veteran's National Foundation.
Son of the late August and Wilhelmina Hier, he was also predeceased by his wife, Lorraine Giffney Hier in 1997, his brothers, August and Donald Hier and his daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Hier. He is survived by his son, Craig Hier, of Howell; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charles Taeschler of Parlin; his sister and brother-in-law, Elvena and Ben Siragusa of Piscataway; 5 grandchildren, Robbin, Tami, David, Michael and Carrie; 12 great grandchildren, Tayler, Cody, Amanda, Sarah, Kylie, Brennen, Michela, Joseph, Marianna, Helena, Kendall and Chase.
Funeral services will be held on Feb. 15, 2013 at 12pm at The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by interment at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7pm.
