Dr. Paul McGovern
AGE: 76 • Red Bank
Dr. Paul McGovern, 76, of Red Bank, died Dec. 5, 2012 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. He was born in Jersey City & had lived in Dunellen for 40 years, then Monroe before his move to Red Bank 2 months ago. His wife Pauline died in 2011 & he was predeceased by a brother James. He earned his Doctorate in Engineering from Newark College of Engineering which is now NJIT. Paul worked as an electrical engineer for the Parsons Corp. for several years before his retirement in 2005. Prior to that he also worked for most of his career for the Port Authority in NYC where he had helped design & build the World Trade Center. He also served proudly in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. Paul was an avid golfer & a great Giants fan.
Surviving are 4 sons, David & his companion Steven Pollack of Brooklyn, Stephen & his wife Susan of Middlesex, Michael of San Francisco, Paul of Lanoka Harbor, 3 sisters Catherine DiGerlando of Denville, Claire Polhemus of Lake Lackawanna, NJ, Geri D'elia of Auburn Mass., & 8 grandchildren Katie, Nicole, Matthew, Sean, Jillian, Claire, Lucy, & Maxwell.
Visitation will be Fri. 9-11:30AM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen with a funeral service following at 11:30AM at the funeral home. Cremation will be at the Somerset Hills Crematory in Basking Ridge.

I knew Paul growing up in Lafayette and later commuting with him to NCE where we graduated in 1965. Paul was a true success story: a high school dropout, saved by the grace of God and the Marine Corps, who got into college on a high school GED and excelled, earning many academic honors, while working full time and raising a family. Rest in peace, my friend. Semper Fi.

WOW what a shock, we are so sorry for your loss, I worked for Paul in the Port Authority in the 80's. The last time we saw Paul was in the Charlotte NC International Airport when he was returning home to NJ from working on the Charlotte light rail project for Parsons.
