Loving family share their loss in announcing the death of Alexander K. Niemiera, MD on Friday, March 22, 2013.

Dr. Niemiera attended Georgetown University, Seton Hall University and graduated from Hahnemann University Medical College , Philadelphia, PA in 1944. Dr. Niemiera began as a General Practitioner in Surgery, Obstetrics and Internal Medicine. He was assigned as a Submarine Physician during World War II in Guam as a Lieutenant in the US Navy. In 1950, he returned to General Practice and married the former Joan Swiatkowski at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Perth Amboy. As a Naval Reservist, he left his practice again to serve on the USS Union ( AKA ~ 106 ) during the Korean War. In 1955, he established his General Practice in Perth Amboy. Dr. Niemiera was a Staff Physician at Perth Amboy General Hospital, now Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. He was a member of the Executive Committee at Perth Amboy General Hospital and served as President of the Middlesex County Medical Society. In 1995, he retired after 50 years of devoted service to his patients.

Dr. Niemiera is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan, 6 children and 11 grandchildren. His commitment to educational pursuit and lifelong learning motivated his family toward professional achievement.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Blessed John Paul II Parish at St. Stephen's RC Church at 10:00 am. Burial follows at St. Mary's Cemetery, South River. To honor his memory, contributions may be directed to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey Foundation, Arrangements are entrusted to the Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home, 419 Barclay Street, Perth Amboy.
