AGE: 93 • Manchester

Gertrude Tuhy passed away on Easter Sunday at age 93 at Bridgeway Care Center in Bridgewater NJ. She was born in New York City and raised in Forest Hills, NY. She taught math and physics in Atlantic Highlands High School and Woodbridge High School, then taught 6th grade in Woodbridge Township for 25 years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University (NYU), and took graduate courses in elementary education at Newark State College (now Kean University). After 36 years as a resident of Avenel, NJ, she moved to Leisure Knoll in Manchester, NJ, where she resided for 30 years. Gertrude attended St John's Roman Catholic Church in Lakehurst, NJ. She was active in the Travel, Garden, Nature, Helping Hands, Needlework, and Bayberry Twigs clubs and served terms as president of the Theatre and Singles clubs at Leisure Knoll.

Gertrude was pre-deceased in 1986 by her loving husband of 45 years, Frank P. Tuhy, and by her brother, William in 2007. She is survived by her sons, Frank Tuhy, Jr and Philip Tuhy; daughter-in-law, Janet Tuhy; grandchildren, F. Robert & Jennifer Tuhy, Dianne Tuhy, Rachel & Michael Senesky, Kathleen & Michael Fournier, and Michael Tuhy; and her adored great-grandchildren, Gabe, Gwen, Grace, Maggie, and Charlotte.

She will be inurned at the Ocean County Memorial Park. A memorial service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Defenders of Wildlife, 1130 17th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036.
