H. Gordon Donahay

AGE: 94 • Woodlyn, PA

H. Gordon Donahay, 94, of Woodlyn, PA, and formerly of Edison, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31. Gordon was born on July 5 1920, in Cranbury, New Jersey. As a young man he was a foreman at the Hercules Powder Plant, a high explosives company that met the needs of US armed forces and allies during World War II. An accident on the job caused a serious back injury, the loss of his semi-pro baseball career, and the beginning of a long battle for his health during the early years of marriage to his beloved wife Ellen. Gordon went on to work in the men's retail clothing and tailoring business, in Plainfield, New Jersey, which he pursued until his retirement. Despite its difficult beginning, his marriage to Ellen lasted for sixty six years until her death in 2010. Gordon was a dedicated family man and father, and regardless of age or the challenges of later life, he never lost his love for Ellen, his support and interest for his children, or his passion for his favorite sport, baseball.

Gordon and Ellen were long time active members of the Metuchen Reformed Church in Metuchen, New Jersey, and also enjoyed membership in the Thor Lodge, a Scandinavian club. In retirement years Gordon served the community as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and helped to feed the homeless through Ozanam, a family shelter in Edison, NJ. Survivors: two daughters and their spouses, Nancy I. Dyson (Steven) of Woodlyn, PA and Kristie Bruzenak (Kenneth) of Savannah, GA; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service: 11 AM Saturday at the Cranbury Inn, 21 S. Main St., Cranbury, NJ where friends may call after 10:30 AM. Burial Brainerd Cemetery. Memorial Gifts: to the Woodlyn Baptist Church, 1125 MacDade Blvd., Woodlyn, PA 19094. Online Condolences: www. whiteluttrell.com.
