Mary Viola Rey entered into eternal rest on December 7, 2012 following a long battle with illness. Mary Viola was born on January 7, 1926 in Perth Amboy, NJ, to Agnes and William Rey who migrated from the island Anguilla, West Indies. Mary Voila was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, class of 1945. She went on to attend New York University and Hunter College of New York City and graduated from Kean College of New Jersey with a Master's degree in education. Mary Viola taught reading and ESL for over 40 years in the public school system of Perth Amboy until her retirement. Prior to her teaching she worked at Raritan Arsenal for 20 years. Mary Viola was an active member of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church for over 70 years where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Organization affiliations included: Life Member of the NAACP where she held the titles of executive committee member and scholarship committee member; American Federation of Retired Teachers; Sons and Daughters of Anguilla, where she served many significant roles keeping the organization active.

Mary Viola is survived by one sister, Thelma C. Rey, one sister-in-law, Cheryl Pernell-Rey of Plainfield, two nephews, James J. Rey and Robert C. Rey of Edison, and three God-Children. Mary Viola was preceded in death by her parents, a son, William Masi Rey and two brothers, David W. Rey and James Noel Rey.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012. The viewing will take place from 9am - 11am followed by the service at 11am at Saint Peter's Episcopalian Church at 188 Rector Street in Perth Amboy, NJ.
