Joseph P. McKenzie of New Brunswick passed away at home on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012. He was 81 years old. Born in New Brunswick, he was a lifelong resident of the city. Joseph is a graduate of St. Peter's Elementary and High Schools in New Brunswick. He served as a United States Marine in Korea with the First Division Company B during the Korean Conflict. He was a career firefighter in the City of New Brunswick for thirty years, retiring in 1985. Joseph was an active democratic committeeman in the City of New Brunswick for many years. He was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association Locals 17 and 500, the New Jersey State Firemen's Exempt Organization, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2319, North Brunswick, American Legion Post 25 in Milltown and the BPOE Elks Lodge 324.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary (Bulfin) McKenzie; his brother, William and his twin brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sheila (McNally); his brother, Jack and his wife Frances and his sister-in-law, Suzanne McKenzie. He is also survived by daughters, Kathleen and her husband Anthony Cupano of New Brunswick, Joan and her husband Ernest Muir of Naples, FL, Susan McElligott and her companion James Campbell of New Brunswick, Mary and her husband Ron Hayes of Edison and his son, Michael and his wife Connie of Cream Ridge. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren: Kristen Bell and Michael Cupano, Courtney Psak and Kevin Muir, William, Brendan and Meaghan McElligott, Casey and Connor McKenzie; and great-granddaughter, Caydence McElligott. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Buddy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Avenue in New Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, 81 Seymour Avenue in Edison at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery Mausoleum. Joseph requested that donations be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, care of St. Matthew the Apostle Parish, 81 Seymour Avenue, Edison, NJ 08817.
