Malcolm Dunn Obituary
Plainfield - Malcolm Dunn age 80 of Plainfield, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he relocated to Plainfield, NJ after living in Avenel for several years. He was a member of Fountain Baptist Church in Summit, NJ, where he served in the African Missionary Ministry.
Malcolm began his career as the personnel manager at Gilbert Systems Inc. He then went on to become a self employed entrepreneur and owner/operator of Hour Power in Newark and "Dunn & Sons" Maintenance Corp. for 46 years.
He also held seats on Plainfield City Council for fourteen years, also serving as Council President. He was appointed Commissioner of Plainfield Housing Authority, and PMUA. Malcolm also served as a member of the Governor's Advisory Council on Minority Business Development and as Vice Chairperson of the Vendor Input Committee of the NY/NJ Minority Purchasing Council.
Malcolm was predeceased by his youngest son Mark (Kim) siblings Cyra and Robert. He is survived by his wife Flora of 61 years; sons Jeff, Gregg, Guy (Judy), Kevin(Leslie),daughter Pamela Dunn-Hale (Calvin); sisters Maxine Salaam, Jerrelyn Woodard, brother Hugh Daniel; thirteen grandchildren,four great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and close friends.
Visitation to be held Friday, January 11, 2009, 5-9 PM, Plainfield High School. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 12, 2019 at 11 AM at Fountain Baptist Church in Summit, NJ. Arrangements by Judkins Colonial Home, www.judkinscolonialhome.com

So sorry to hear of the passing of Malcolm. Our paths crossed because of Antigua, WI, in 1991. My daughter met his niece Jasmine in Antigua, and our families struck up a friendship from then. He will be missed, as so many already know, and I am fortunate to have known him and Flora, and counted them as friends. Besides sharing our love of Antigua, Malcolm and I also shared the same birthday - October 28th, mine being 1946. RIP. Condolences from Ray and Ceil Garzone from NJ and now SC.

Condolences to the Dunn Family. I have been a long time unofficial student of Mr. Dunn for many years. As a community father and mentor the talks we had was very much appreciated and valued.
As I had the privilege to study music at the Dunn's house (mainly Parliament Funkadelic) on the corner of Spooner & Eight Ave during our high school days.
The lessons of starting and running a Business was just as important.
We needed the New Jersey Brain Trust and he needed us to understand the true ability we had as a community and family.
Thank you Mr. Dunn for the works for establishing the A 8 set aside federal program (https://interact.gsa.gov/blog/take-minute-understand-8a-set-asides)
and allowing us to demonstrate that we can do for our selves.
We all loved you and will miss you.
