Margit Feldman Obituary

Margit Feldman

Somerset - Margit Feldman, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on April 14, 2020.

Margit was born on June 12, 1929, and raised in Tolcsva, Hungary. A Holocaust survivor, she immigrated to the United States in 1947. She met her husband, Harvey Feldman, and they were married in 1953.

Margit devoted her life to telling her inspiring story and touched the hearts of thousands of students and educators. In 1994 Margit helped pass a bill in the New Jersey State Legislature that mandates a Holocaust and genocide curriculum in the public school system.

She is survived and dearly missed by her husband Harvey, daughter Tina Feldman, son Dr. Joseph Feldman and wife Julie, grandchildren Caryn, Joshua, Zachary, and cousin William Boehm.

Dear Harvey and Family,
I was so deeply saddened to learn today of the passing of Margit. Please accept my most sincere sympathy. Margit and I worked together for so many years on the NJ Commission on Holocaust Education, where she made an indelible contribution to the study and teaching of The Holocaust. She was a remarkably talented woman whose life stood as an example of caring, respect and love for her fellow human beings. I will remember her forever.

Remembering her and her husband with fondness. Interacted with them when they were patients of Dr Wachtel's and then at The Eye Specialists.always enjoyed speaking and teasing with them, especially when Harvey would carry her purse and we would tell him it was the best accessory. Such bright lights extinguished. Sorry for your loss. I've been wanting to read Margit's book but hard to find a copy. Truly special people.

So very sad to hear of the passing of Mrs. Margit Feldman. She was the sweetest person ever when she would come in to be seen at the Eye Specialist where I worked. Her memories will not be forgotten. RIP and prayers to her family and friends.

I am terribly sorry to hear about this. I remember Ms. Feldman well from when her son, Joe, and I were young. We've lived in Chicago for over 30 years now and have lost touch with many people. I pass my sympathies to all.

I am a teacher from Wallkill Valley Regional High School in Hardyston, NJ who attended many of Mrs. Feldman's conferences at Raritan Valley Community College... My students lives were changed after hearing her story... she gave them the confidence to attack bias and discrimination: and to make sure that another Holocaust would ever happen again.
On behalf of my students and myself, our condolences and prayers to the Feldman family.

While I have never heard of Margot before today, Upon hearing some of her story I went to Google. What a strong woman to have persevered and then fought to keep the same horrors from happening again. I plan to hunt for her book.

I hope she had much joy in her life, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.

When I was the rabbi at Congregation Kehilat Shalom in Belle Mead, NJ, Margit came twice to speak about her experiences as a Holocaust survivor. We greatly valued this important work that she did. I mourn her loss, and send my deepest condolences to her husband (who I hope is recovering) and to all her loved ones. HaMakom Yinachem, Rabbi Susan Falk.
