Anthony W. Chioffi

Bridgewater - Anthony W. Chioffi, 85, of Bridgewater passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at his home.

He was born in Bayonne on June 20, 1935, a son of the late Alfred and Alva Chioffi. He had lived in Bayonne until moving to Bridgewater in 1963.

He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War having served from 1953 to 1955.

Mr. Chioffi was a construction worker and later a construction supervisor employed by J. Rich Steers in New York City for 42 years retiring in 1997. He worked as a construction supervisor on several bridges in the Tri-State area including; the Verrazano Bridge, the Newburg - Beacon Bridge, the Throgs Neck Bridge, the Commodore Berry Bridge and the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 15D of New York City, the American Legion Post No. 1000 of Trenton, and was a communicant of St. Brigid Church in Peapack.

While in high school, he was a member of St. Vincent's Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in Bayonne, which won a national championship in 1950.

He is predeceased by a son, Anthony W. Chioffi, who died August 20, 1994; and by a brother, Alfred Chioffi, Jr., who died July 26, 2008.

Mr. Chioffi is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ellen M. Foley Chioffi; 3 daughters, Lisa M. Folk and her husband, George, of Whitehouse Station, Leanne MacGillivray and her husband, Michael, of Manahawkin, and Leslie Curran and her husband, Robert, of Escondido, CA; 7 grandchildren, Ali Young, Robert and Anthony Folk, Sean MacGillivray, Autumn, Brianna and Claudia Curran; 2 great granddaughters, Abigail and Adalynn Young; and a sister, Mary Ann O'Donnell of Carson City, NV.

Funeral gathering at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Monday, November 16 at 10:15am followed by a mass at St. Brigid Church, 129 Main Street, Peapack at 11:00am. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 - 7pm. Please note, masks must be worn and social distancing protocols must be followed. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or to St. Brigid Church, P.O. Box 33, Peapack, NJ 07977.
