GEORGE J. SEKEL
AGE: 78 EDISON
George J. Sekel of Edison died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at home. He was 78.
Born in Plains, Pa., he lived in Linden before moving to Edison in 1960. He was the owner of the Freeway Express Trucking Company in Woodbridge for 20 years before retiring in 1995.
He had served in the U.S. Navy Reserves in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He was a member of the Raritan Traffic Club in New Brunswick and the Newark Traffic Club.
He was predeceased by his brothers, John and Jerry Sekel, and his sister, Barbara Slendorn.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Nadia (Meluski) Sekel; sons, Gary Sekel of Galloway, N.J., and Dr. Jeffrey Sekel of Palm Springs, Calif.; sisters, Ruth Evans and Shirley Malloy, both of West Wyoming, Pennsylvania, and Dolores Christian of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Patricia and John Kontra, Leonard and Linda Meluski and Judi Walker; granddaughter, Megan Sekel, and several nieces and nephews.
A blessing will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Vanderhoven Chapel in Hazelwood Cemetery, Clark, with a burial to follow. Visitation will be held 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. on Wednesday at Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the NJ American Parkinson's Disease Association, 120 Albany St., Suite 360, New Brunswick, NJ 08901, or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Condolences to the family may be sent to [email protected].
