South Amboy - Harold Joseph Dennen, Jr., 93, of South Amboy died on Saturday June 9, 2018 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Born in South Amboy he lived there all his life. Before retiring he was employed as a railroad engineer. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War he was a member of the American Legion Post 211, Sayreville and Sayreville VFW Post 4699. A member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, South Amboy he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 426, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the South Amboy Elks Lodge 784. He was twice honored as Grand Marshal of the South Amboy Memorial Day Parade in 2007 and 2010, was Deputy Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2016 and was also named Citizen of the Year by the Elks Lodge in 2016. Harold served on the South Amboy Zoning Board, was a South Amboy Babe Ruth League Coach and also belonged to Independence Engine & Hose Company, having the distinction as oldest fireman in South Amboy.

Son of the late Harold J., Sr. and Daisy Disbrow Dennen he is also predeceased by his wife Irene Kosovich Dennen in 1988; his sister Marion Barry; his stepbrother Doug Hicks and his grandson Kyle Dennen in 2005. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Harold Joseph, III and Gail Dennen of Murrels Inlet, South Carolina and Ronald Lee and Sue Dennen of Hampton, Virginia; his daughter Wendy Erickson and Bob Richards of South Amboy; his grandchildren Melissa Ott and her husband Charles, Jason, Stuart and Gregory Dennen, Robert, Heather, Jessica and Meredithe Erickson and Ron Dennen and his great-grandchildren Brandon and Jacob Dennen and Kylea Ott.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 14, 2018 at 8:45am from The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals" 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, South Amboy. Cremation will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8pm.
