Dr. Karl Franzoni Obituary
Dr. Karl Franzoni

Sea Girt - Dr. Karl (aka. MOOSE) Franzoni died on July 3rd, shortly after celebrating his 92th birthday. Preceding him in death are his most beloved wife of fifty seven years Margaret ("Dee") Franzoni, his eldest son Karl, Jr., and his granddaughter Alysia.

Karl was born to Edward Franzoni and Mary Ellen McDonough on June 21, 1927, at St. Francis Hospital, in Trenton, New Jersey. He was also the youngest brother to now deceased Dr. Andrew Edward Franzoni and Dr. John Donald Franzoni. He, along with his two brothers before him, committed themselves to the care of tens of thousands of Trentonians for over seven decades in both primary care and obstetrics and gynecology.

Karl was educated at Trenton Catholic Boys High School (1944). He then attended Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland, and received his medical degree from Georgetown University in 1951.

Karl Franzoni married Margaret Mary McGrath in 1951 and was the very proud father of nine children, Karl, Meg, Andrea, Eric, Christopher, Elizabeth, Garrett, Paul, and Lisa.

Dr. Franzoni completed an internship at St. Francis Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1952 and practiced family medicine from 1952-1960. He then completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency in 1964, at Margaret Hague Maternity hospital and Jersey City Medical Center. Dr. Franzoni practiced obstetrics and gynecology from 1965 to 1999 and retired from active practice in January of 1999.

His love and commitment to medicine led him to the Presidency of the Mercer County Medical Society (1968), proud member of the AMA and chairman of the AMA delegation from New Jersey 1975-1992, as well as, vice speaker and speaker of the NJ House of Delegates, from 1984-1997.

After retirement, Karl moved to Seagirt NJ, where he and wife Dee were active members of St. Mark's Church in Sea Girt NJ. He was a lector and Eucharistic minister and a proud member of his congregation.

His final days were spent at The Claire Estate under the compassionate and gentle hands of their care givers.

Karl leaves behind an appreciative and adoring family. He was the proud grandfather to seventeen children and great grandfather to four children.

To his family and to so many in our community, Karl was a generous, understanding and wise mentor. He will be sorely missed by so many, yet his commitment to his community and to his strong faith, leaves all that knew him, with the comfort that his reunion with his beloved wife and with his Lord and Savior will bring him great joy and everlasting peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mark's RC Church, 215 Crescent Pkwy, Sea Girt, NJ 08750.

Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mark's Church Social Concerns Committee, 215 Crescent Blvd., Sea Girt, NJ 08750.
