Dr. Lisa Marino

Dr. Lisa Marino was a funny, beautiful, brilliant, and inspirational woman as well as an adored wife, beloved daughter, cherished sister, idolized aunt, and highly-regarded physician. She entered into eternal life on 13 April, going home to the God she loved so much. She left us far too soon, having made the world a better place for 40 years. Born with cystic fibrosis, doctors told her parents she would not live to see adolescence. They encouraged her not to push too hard. Instead of heeding that advice, Lisa lived an amazing life filled with passion and joy. She attended St. Joseph's University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She earned a residency and fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in a field she truly enjoyed. Lisa married the man she loved and they were unbelievably happy. He adored everything about her. Of all the places she lived, Lisa liked Philadelphia and Southampton (NJ) the most. Among the many things she loved were her animals: one crazy dog, four cats, three horses, and thousands of honey bees, all on the farm she shared with her husband. Her smile was a thing of beauty and her laugh infectious. She enjoyed cooking, watching football, and taking naps. She loved playing with her nieces, nephews and god-children. She made others smile. She had a hell of a temper. She was a living, breathing miracle. Lisa was the recipient of numerous honors and the author of articles, but distinctions never mattered much to her. Her patients loved her on account of the fact she gave everyone the time they needed. As such, she was usually running late. Lisa was a great doctor because she was a great person. She was also a woman of immense faith. Lisa's spirituality was rooted in gratitude, hope, and a lot of prayer. She found peace when praying the rosary. Lisa never once used her illness as an excuse. She appreciated every day. She loved deeply. Her life was a study in grace, generosity, compassion, humility, and dignity.

For those who loved her, the world is a less vibrant place today: her devoted husband of 11 years, Seán Sanford; parents Ellen and Al Marino of Princeton; sister Lori Marino (Anthony Frascatore) and niece, Ella, of Manhattan; in-laws Helen and Art Sanford of Florence; Joseph (Jill) Sanford, nephews Conor and Owen, and niece, Annie, of Bridgewater; and William (Gretchen) Sanford and nieces Clare and Maeve, of Glen Ellyn (IL); her god-children, a truly wonderful community of friends; esteemed colleagues at the Rothman Institute; and of course, her dog Maggie whom she might have loved most of all. Each will grieve her passing for the fullness of their lives.

A wake will be held at the Catholic Community of St. Charles Borromeo, 47 Skillman Road, Skillman, NJ 08558, on Friday, April 17th from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday, April 18th at 10:30 AM. under the direction of the Hillsborough Funeral Home. A memorial fund, the Two Hawks Foundation, is being established in her honor. In the meantime, follow Lisa's example, be generous to those in need, laugh as much as possible, and love with all your heart.

Lisa lived a wonderful life servicing others, doing what she loved and giving.
Jesus was a servant and Lisa proved that it is better to give than receive.
Through the conversations of others, I gathered that Lisa was loving, kind, caring and strong with a sternness that brought balance in her life.
Lisa can not be forgotten because her life radiates light and shines forever.

Time passes, years go by in a flash, but the memories will always remain with us. The other day I was looking through photo albums for a particular time period, and came across photos of Lisa and Lori. Sweet little girls with doll faces. Twice this week I had accidently come across photos of the two sisters. I remember Lisa this way, sweet face, tiny voice, and then as a smart young woman and surprisingly to me, also an artist! Another wonderful surprise to me, that she had become a doctor! Lisa, an adorable little girl, a loving woman, a respected physician....Lisa, a beautiful soul. May you Rest in Peace, Lisa, with love and fondest memories, Toni.

Dr. Marino was the most wonderful person my husband and I have ever met. She had the most upbeat personality and was always there to lend an ear. It was a shock to my husband and I when we found out about her passing. It has been a great honor to have met her and have her as our Doctor. Condolences to her family and may she rest in peace. We will never forget you Dr. Marino, you will be dearly missed by all. Thank you for everything you have done for all of us.

I found out about Dr. Marino today 4/22, when I called to make a follow up Apt. with her. I just saw her in January. I will miss her, we always talked about all our animals, when I was having procedures done she would play Katy Perry songs for me because she remembered I loved Katy Perry. She was one hell of a doctor and I will truly miss her. I am totally shocked that she is gone, I never knew of her condition.

As one of Dr. Lisa's patients, I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family. I truly loved her. We would joke like we were old friends, she would tease me and tell me she was going to find me a good Christian man. Her passing came as an immense shock to me, because I didn't know of her illness, and she was so vibrant, happy, and ALWAYS smiling. I will miss her dearly, may she rest in peace in the loving arms of Jesus. See you when I get there dear Dr. Lisa.... I love you!

I have never met Dr. Marino. I was looking for the obituary of a dear family friend. But WOW, what a woman she must have been. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family for the loss of who appears to have been a remarkable person whose life was an inspiration and a gift to all she knew (and now even one she did not know). I'm not sure how I ended up reading this (insert Holy Spirit HERE), but what a blessing. I accept the challenge of following Lisa's example of generosity, laughter, love and faith. May we all. Will someone please forward the memorial fund information to me at jconyer@comcast.net? I wish to honor Dr. Marino's earthly and eternal life.
