AGE: 96 • Bridgewater

Passed away peacefully December 20, 2016.

Robert was born march 29, 1920, to a Quaker family in Newtown, Pennsylvania. He was to son of Robert C. Wilson Sr. and Edna (Watson) Wilson and the brother of the late A. Duane Wilson. He graduated from the George School, Newtown, PA., 1937, Princeton University in 1941 and from of College of Physicians and Surgeons f Columbia University in 1944. After serving as captain in the Army U.S. Medical Corps during World War II, he served his internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York City.

In 1951, he began his practice in Somerville, NJ being the first board-certified medical specialist in this community. He served as director of internal medicine at Somerset Medical Center for 17 years. He received the Golden Merit Award from the Medical Society of New Jersey for his 42 years as a board certified specialist. After retiring in 1992, he volunteered his services at the Methadone Clinic.

Dr. Wilson was known as "doctor's doctor", he counted 37 physicians among his patients. He never minded making house calls. " I always felt it necessary for house-bound patients" He was a lifelong resident of Somerville before moving to Readington 8 years ago.

He loved the world of golf and was a member of the Raritan Valley Country Club. He played many courses from the east to west coast. He enjoyed many years traveling to Europe, Asia, Caribbean, & United States. He loved spending time on Long Beach Island with family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Virginia 2013.

He leaves a loving family of 6 children: Aubrey V. (Vickie), William A. (Rosemary), Richard A. (Theresa), Carolyn Heller (Robert), and Patricia Deveneau (Partner Daniel), David L. (Sayles). His beloved 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law Sheila Wilson.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date at New Cemetery in Somerville.
