Dorothy M. (Waters) McWatters

AGE: 84 • Carteret

Dorothy M. (Waters) McWatters, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, transitioned into the next part of her life's journey on Friday, February 28, 2014. She was 84 years young. Born to Jack and Margaret Waters in Kearny, NJ, she moved to Carteret in 1952. She worked from the age of 13, starting in Bamberger's Tea Room and most recently as a Dealer for Stanley Home Products since the 1970's. She was a communicant of St. Joseph RC Church in Carteret and was a member of many organizations there throughout the years including the Servants of Mary and was a founding member of the St. Joseph's Players. The Carteret Women's Club, the Carteret Day and Evening Seniors, the Middlesex WOWS (current President), the Red Hats, and Friends of Ozman House, were some of her most recent activities. She was the organizing force behind the St. Joseph Thrift Store, aiding many in the local community in its 20 years of operation.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Thomas F., Sr. in 1998, a son Bernard in 1958 and a daughter, Maureen F. in 2010.

She is survived by daughters, Kathleen McWatters of Woodbridge and Donna McWatters Bowles of Pt. Pleasant; sons, John McWatters and his wife Tammy of Carteret; Thomas McWatters and his wife Maria of Woodbridge; and Patrick McWatters of Carteret; and grandsons, Tom and Anthony McWatters.

Funeral services will take place Thursday, 8:30 AM at the Rumpf Funeral Home, 21 Locust Street, Carteret, NJ. We will begin leaving at 9:00 AM for a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph RC Church, Carteret. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Food Bank of NJ at or Heifer International, an organization to end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth,
