Sylvia (Chernoff) Rubin

AGE: 87 • Monroe

Sylvia (Chernoff) Rubin, 87, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in her home. Born on the lower east side of New York, she moved to the Bronx in 1941, before residing in New Brunswick for 40 years. In 1996, Sylvia moved to Monroe Township, NJ. Sylvia retired in 1992, after being employed for 35 years, as a Legal Secretary for the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office in New Brunswick. She attended classes and became a Literacy Volunteer for Middlesex County. Sylvia was also a mediator to Vicinage of Middlesex County. Sylvia ran for and was elected as a committeewoman for the Democratic Club. With the inspiration of her family, she enjoyed cooking and preparing foods for them. Sylvia was a real "foodie".

Predeceased by her parents Manny and Lillie (Slotnick) Chernoff, her sister, Doris Ornstein, (1998), her husband, Bernard E. Rubin (2002), and her son Mitchell Rubin, (2005), Sylvia is survived by her beloved daughter Linda and her husband Robert Jacob, her grandchildren Alexander Jacob and his wife Wendy and Meredith Jacob, her daughter-in-law Lisa (Rubin) and her husband Ed Cicorek, her cousin Semyon Khatyanov and his wife Svetlana and their children Olga and Alexander.

Funeral service will take place today, (Sunday, August 10th), at 1:00 pm at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. Interment to follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Memorial contribution in her memory may be mad to Feed the Children, Community Food Bank or the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
