Frances Marie Hooper Wiegmann

AGE: 87 • Somerset

Frances Marie Hooper Wiegmann, 87, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, in Hopewell, NJ due to complications from a recent stroke. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late John Reese Hooper and the late Anna E. (Sheridan) Hooper and was raised in Rego Park, NY. Frances was a longtime resident of Middlesex, Forked River and Canal Walk in Somerset.

Frances' life revolved around family and friends. She enjoyed nothing so much as family gatherings on the holidays or vacation trips. Although self-described as shy by nature, she easily made friends wherever her path led. Originally nicknamed "Dolly" in her youth, to her new acquaintances she was invariably "Fran". She was an enthusiastic traveler, including visiting numerous harbors from Maine to the Caribbean in her husband's and son's boats. Fran's volunteer work included Community Hospital in Toms River, the Friends of the Library of the Ocean County Library in Forked River, and the Franklin Inn Used Book Store run by the Meadows Foundation.

Frances was predeceased by her husband, William Wiegmann and her half-sister, Anne Hooper Pettinger. She is survived by her son, William and daughters, Joanne Mullowney, Susan Thatcher and Gail Palkovics; sons-in-law, William Mullowney, Michael Thatcher and Fred Palkovics; and grandchildren, Edward Mullowney and his wife Rebecca, James Mullowney, Paul Mullowney, Michelle Michalski and her husband Martin and Lauren Thatcher. She had five great-grandchildren, Devin Mullowney, Tierney Mullowney, Logan Mullowney, Dylan Michalski and Jordan Michalski and three nephews, Michael Pettinger, Matthew Pettinger and Robert Pettinger.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Rd., Middlesex. Mass of a Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, May 24 at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, 600 Harris Ave., Middlesex. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Fran's name to the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112. Condolences may be sent to
