Susan Schappell, a resident of Millennium Memory Care in Holmdel, New Jersey, died peacefully in the early afternoon on Saturday January 20, 2018 at the age of 76.
Susan graduated Governor Mifflin High School in Shillington, Pennsylvania as valedictorian class of 1959, received a bachelor's of science degree in applied mathematics (summa cum laude) from Brown University's Pembroke College in 1963 and master's of science from Stephens Institute of Technology.
Susie's career began in the early 1960s at Bell Telephone Laboratories, the premier research company in the world, at that time, where she excelled in computer programming for the communications network. Working at AT&T Technologies in the 1970s, Susie designed and managed the system that regional telephone companies used to expedite repair orders through the early 2000s. Susie served as a District Manager at AT&T and Telcordia Technologies in Piscataway, New Jersey until her retirement in 2001.
Susan will be remembered for her generosity to all, her smile and laugh, and her love of spending time with friends and family, often at the Jersey Shore.
Survived by daughters Anne Light and Cathy Smyrski, sisters Betsy Czepiel and Cathy Ventura, four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband Alan G. Schappell, sister Linda Reed, and parents Frank Merlin Humphreys and Elizabeth Hipple Humphreys.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 17 at the Hillsborough Funeral Home, located at 796 US Highway 206 in Hillsborough, NJ 08844, gathering time is 3pm with services to follow 4pm.
