Mr. Haskel Lee "Hack" Absher Obituary
Haskel "Hack" Lee Absher, 85, of Hoopeston, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Feb. 17, 2015, at his home, to be with the Lord and awaiting family in his new heavenly home.
Hack was born on Nov. 19, 1929, in Sumner County, Tenn., the son of Ernie and Laura (Graves) Absher. He married Virginia Madison on June 16, 1961, in Covington Ind. They were married for 53 wonderful years.
He is survived by his wife Virginia and a daughter: Julie (George) Carl, of Hoopeston. He also has a son: Norman Absher, of Gilman, by a previous marriage. Also surviving are: one brother: Eugene Absher, of Hoopeston; two grandchildren: Kayla Garrison and Kasey Carl, both of Hoopeston along with two loving great-grandchildren: Carson and Carlee Garrison.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Hack worked at Joan of Arc/Pillsbury in Hoopeston for 41 years, until he retired in 1991. He also served in the United States Army for two years at Fort Monroe, Va. He was a member of the American Legion in Hoopeston for many years.
Hack was an avid sports fan, enjoyed gardening and loved going to McDonalds in Hoopeston to socialize with his friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Haskel Lee Absher's Life will be held at 1 p.m. , Feb. 20, at the Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston, with Pastor Terry Polson officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services in Floral Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Hoopeston American Legion.
The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Mr. Absher's life.
