Betty Spencer Cooper Obituary
CHESTERTOWN - On March 6, 2017, Betty Spencer Cooper went into the loving open arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Betty was born Feb. 28, 1932 in Elkton Hospital. She was the daughter of Harry Andrew and Emma Catherine Craig Spencer of Kennedyville. She married James Carl Cooper of Chestertown on Aug. 21, 1954 at the Kennedyville Methodist Church. They were married 62 years.
She graduated from Chestertown High School in 1949, and from Towson College in 1953, with a major in education. She began her teaching career at Rock Hall Elementary School in 1953 and later moved to Chestertown Elementary School, where she taught second grade. Her teaching career spanned 31 years. Upon retirement, she became a housewife.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 36 and Christ United Methodist Church.
Her brother, Wayne Spencer (Marian) of Middletown, Del., survives and a second brother, Kenny Spencer, predeceased her.
A funeral service will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11. The Rev. Vonnie Paxton will officiate. Friends may call at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening.
Funeral arrangements were made by Marvin V. Williams Jr., Funeral Director in Chestertown.
