Obituary

Fairy Elnora Launer, 91, of Beardstown, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

She was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Clark County, the daughter of Wallace E. and Vertie I. Lingafelter Elliott. She attended East McDaniel School for her elementary education, then Hutsonville High School in Hutsonville, for two years. The family home was destroyed by fire in 1936, so she supported herself from that time on.

She worked as a licensed practical nurse for 13 years at Allan's Sanitarium in Robinson. She married Lester D. Hills in 1955, and his work brought them to Jacksonville, where she was employed by J. Capps & Sons Ltd. and Our Saviour's Hospital. Their marriage ended in 1971. She was united in marriage to Gilbert W. Launer on Aug. 24, 1974, by Pastor Elwood Anderson at Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. They lived on the family farm on Chandlerville Road until 1981, when they moved to Beardstown, and he preceded her in death Feb. 22, 2005.

As a teenager she accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized into the Methodist faith. After her marriage to Gilly she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs, where she was active in many capacities and the Lutheran Women's Organization. Following Gilly's death she transferred her membership to First United M.E. in Beardstown. She was a member of F.U.M.C., Sangamon Valley Home Makers, Neighborhood Lend a Hand Club, Circle 6, Beardstown Emblem Club 474 and Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau. She and Gilly were avid card players. She was a nature lover and enjoyed the beauty of God's creations and was a loyal friend to many.

She is survived by one sister, Margaret (Walter) Conner of Robinson; seven nephews; three nieces; two stepdaughters, Frances (Homer) Briney and family of Rushville and Joyce (Duane) Lang and family of O'Fallon, Mo.; six stepgrandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bruce, Seibert and Warren Elliott; and stepson, Donald Launer.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice or Cass County Food Pantry. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.airsman-hires.com. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of the arrangements.
