She was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Carl and Bessie Johnson Peterson. She married Thomas Leland McGinnis on March 26, 1950, in Alpha, and they were proud to celebrate 68 years of marriage in 2018.

Mrs. McGinnis is survived by her husband; three children, Karen L. (Marvin) Murphy of Clinton, Leslie A. (Mike) Howerton of Jacksonville and Brian (Karen) McGinnis of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Karlie (Greg) Lamar of Clinton, Kelsie Murphy of Chicago, Jacob (Amanda) Howerton of Winchester, Lindsay (Nick) Kolar of Caledonia, Michigan, Jennifer (Patrick) Manning of Sycamore, and Emily (John) Wiezorek of Chatham; six great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Bo. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Anderson and Ethel Shaver; and one brother, Paul Peterson (surviving wife, Betty of West Plains, Missouri).

Mrs. McGinnis worked alongside her husband on their family farm near Arcadia for many years, walking beans, driving the tractor and tending her garden. She enjoyed ceramics, painting and other crafts and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a longtime member of Liter Baptist Church and the Ladies' Aide, and a member of Arcadia Women's Club. She and Leland camped at Jacksonville Family Campers on Lake Jacksonville for many years, traveled extensively, and spent many winters in Texas. Her world revolved around her family, and she cherished the times they spent together.

The family will meet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at Williamson Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Arcadia Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Liter Baptist Church or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation. Condolences may be left online at airsman-hires.com.
