Daniel Kenneth HOPCROFT Obituary
HOPCROFT, Daniel Kenneth It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our father, Daniel Kenneth Hopcroft (""Hoppy""). He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at PRHC on August 18, 2019 at the age of 72. Danny was born November 14, 1946 to the late Kenneth and Mary (nee Moore) Hopcroft in Peterborough, Ontario. A devoted husband, Danny is survived by his wife Judie (nee Colling) of 51 years. Loving father to Michael (Sue Ellis) and Tracey (Cory Pandoff); proud Grampa to Morgan and Delaney Hopcroft-Steed and Jaxon Hopcroft, as well as Chad and Ryan (deceased 2018) Kent and Taylor (Cody) and Wyatt (Ivory) Ellis. Danny was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone. He gave a special piece of himself to everyone he knew and through them his memory will live on forever. Born and raised in East City, Danny always felt that was home and chose to raise his own family there as well. He worked in the financial field for the entirety of his career. Danny spent many of his early years at the arena playing hockey and lacrosse (Hasting Legionaires) and on the ballfield where he made many lifelong friends. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays and his hometown lacrosse team, the Peterborough Lakers. He also enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Lytles Marsh Huntclub. His buddies thought the deer probably knew they were safe when they were under Dan's watch. Purchased in 1986, Birch Island, Chemong Lake, became home to Danny's family cottage and was his favorite place to be. He loved being on the water, fishing and boating, but most of all he loved to be surrounded by his family and friends. Everyone was welcome and he always had a lawn chair, a beverage and lots of laughs waiting for everyone who visited. The memories that were created on his beloved island will last a lifetime and be cherished by all. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, September 15th at the Peterborough Lions Club, 347 Burnham Street, Peterborough, Ontario. Friends and family are invited to drop in between the hours of 12:30-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Danny's memory to The Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame would be appreciated. Online condolences to the family may be made at AshburnhamFuneral.ca.
