GALLOWAY, Joan Born Yvonne Dorothy ""Joan"" Pearson in Peterborough on December 16, 1935, Joan's indomitable spirit passed peacefully from her body, surrounded by the love of her family, on September 7, 2019. In her 84th year, Joan succumbed to a progressive lung disease after a courageous and ambitious four year battle. Joan was a strong, loyal and fiercely independent woman, who always moved forward without fear and sought no pity. Joan's zest for life was apparent, infectious, genuine and unbroken to the end. Family, friends and faith were Joan's passion. Fun was always a priority; a box of wine was always available to be shared; and Joan's doors were always open. You could count on Joan for an honest answer and always knew where she stood. Joan never wanted to leave a party. When she had to leave this one, she did it on her terms. She will be missed by all who knew her. Joan is survived by her loving husband, Paul, who tirelessly supported her through her illness, allowing her to live at home until her final days. Joan was the cherished mother of Randy Northey (Liz Doris), step-mother of Steve (Jane) Galloway and John (Eileen) Galloway and dear nana of Matthew Northey, Mya Northey, Kyle Galloway and Natalie Galloway. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Pearson (nee Hickey) of Peterborough and her seven siblings, Julia Taylor (Arthur), Sally McGarrity (Frank), Greg Pearson (Louise), Jim Pearson (Cecelia), Clara Revere (Frank), Teresa Eddington (Orval) and Bud Pearson (Phyllis and Jean). Special thanks to Drs. Verma, Mallory and Spink for their compassionate and dedicated care; the many paramedics and ER doctors and nurses who assisted Joan over the last few months; and the incredible nurses in the palliative care unit at PRHC, whose genuine kindness and love comforted Joan and her family through Joan's final days. Joan's daughter-in-law, Liz, can not be thanked enough for holding Joan's hand and guiding her on her medical journey. A celebration of Joan's life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Millbrook Legion, 9 King St. E., Millbrook, ON. In memory of Joan, donations to the St. Vincent de Paul would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Fallis & Shields Funeral Home.
