Wesley G. Hunter LOCKNEY - Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Wesley G. Hunter, 28, will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Main Street Church of Christ in Lockney with Jay Don Poindexter and Jerry Klien officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney. Hunter, who was stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at his childhood home in Lockney. He was born Oct. 3, 1979, in Plainview. Hunter married Rayanne Weese on July 26, 2004, in a mountain-top ceremony in Colorado. The couple has two young children, a son, Westlin, 3, and a daughter, Tavie, 22 months. Hunter joined the U.S. Army in 1998 and served three years with the 1/509 Infantry (Airborne) before joining the Colorado National Guard. He returned to active duty in 2004 and was assigned to the 1/71 Cavalry, 10th Mountain Division. He served a tour of duty in Iraq beginning in 2005 and ending Feb. 26, 2006, when he was badly injured during an attack. He was subsequently awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. An artist all of his life, Hunter was a 1998 graduate of Lockney High School and attended the Art Institute of Colorado in Denver. He was a member of the Church of Christ and an Eagle Scout. Hunter is survived by his wife and children; parents, Bill and Kathy Hunter of Lockney; a sister, Mandy Hunter of Lockney; a brother, Jeff Hunter of Nashville, Tenn.; and a niece, Anna Hernandez of Lockney.
