Beulah Glenn Reeves McCain, of Murrells Inlet, passed away at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C., at the age of 86. She was born on April 17, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia, and was the only child of the late Hiriam Wyatt Reeves and Bessie Glendora Bridwell.
She graduated from Girls' Senior High School of Atlanta and worked at the Main Post Office in downtown Atlanta, and then at the Atlanta Woolen Mills and briefly as a telephone operator during the was until she met her husband of 65 years, Grover C. McCain. They were married in New London, Connecticut, while he was in submarine school. Beulah's interest over the years included painting with pastels, golf, bridge, traveling and genealogy. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Beulah was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was the heart and soul of her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Grover C. McCain; and survived by one daughter, Susan Glendora McCain of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sons, Grover C. McCain, Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Andrew Gordon McCain and wife, Patty, of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C.; one grandson, Robert Brian McCain of Raleigh, N.C.; three granddaughters, Lisa Ashley McCain Parker and husband, Steve Parker, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Jennifer Alison McCain Olson and husband, Brett Olson of Arlington, Va., Hannah Elizabeth McCain of Morrisville, N.C., and one step-granddaughter, Tetyana McCain of Chapel Hill, N.C. In addition, four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Rachel McCain of Lakeland, Fla., and Rowan and Zoe Parker of Chapel Hill, N.C. She is also survived by two loving sisters-in-law, Nellie Ruth Cullars of Tallassee, Ala., and Vivian Lucille Anderson of Pensacola, Fla.
A memorial service will be at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Murrells Inlet, 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 to be followed by a reception at Goldfinch's. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one's favorite charity.
