James “Jimmy” Andy Mullins

James Andy Mullins, 86, of Clermont passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020.
James Andy Mullins (Jimmy) was born on October 25, 1933 in Jenkins, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Jenkins High School before enlisting in the U.S. Airforce in July of 1951. During his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal. After serving for 4 years, Jimmy was honorably discharged in July of 1955.
Jimmy went on to work for NASA and the Goddard Space Flight Center as an engineer for 31 years working on missions including the Orbiter “Discovery”, the shuttle Challenger, and the Hubble Space Telescope. He retired from NASA and the Goddard Space Flight Center in March of 1995.
Jimmy and his wife, Joice, shared a passion for golf and were members of the Glenn Dale Golf Club while they lived in Maryland. As avid lifelong golfers, Jimmy & Joice were known to win many tournaments together and would play every chance they could. Jimmy’s love for golf was known to all of his friends and family and he often would share stories about tournaments and the PGA golfers he had played.
After retiring, Jimmy and Joice moved to Sebring, Florida in 1998 where Jimmy sat on the country club board of directors. In 2004, Jimmy and Joice moved to their home in Clermont where they continued to be active members of the community and the Green Valley Country Club. Jimmy’s love for golf never faded even after he was no longer able to play due to back surgery.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Joice Miller-Mullins, his step son, Carter Miller, his parents, Melvin & Martha Mullins and his siblings, Howard Mullins, Lloyd Mullins, Melvin Mullins, and Wilhelmina Anderson.
Jimmy is survived by his step daughter and son in law, Tracie & Steve Jones of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland; grandchildren, Jennifer Burchinal (Jonathan) of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, Sean Jones of Chesapeake, Virginia, Tara DeMeio (Darren) of McDonough, Georgia, and Jacob Jones of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland; great grandchildren, Carter and Steven Burchinal of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.
A private internment will take place in Clearwater, Florida where Jimmy will be laid to rest next to his wife Joice.
