ADELAIDE GRISAITIS Obituary

GRISAITIS, ADELAIDE On January 18, our world lost an incredibly caring and generous woman who touched so many lives. She sent me a beautiful sunset yesterday and sunrise today, and waited for her last breaths until her little sister could be there, with her husband by her side. I thank all who have cared for and loved her over the years. She loved and appreciated you. Adelaide was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to John and Cecilia Grieshaber. She met her future husband, William Grisaitis, at San Souci park. He said, "If you ever want to get married, look me up." She accepted his marriage proposal on their second date, when she knew she had found a good one They were married on Dec 12,1944. A devout Catholic and member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Casselberry,Florida, she found peace in reading her prayer book, reciting the rosary and going to Mass on Sunday and Holy Days. She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, William L. Grisaitis, a decorated WWII veteran and career Air Force veteran. Adelaide came to Central Florida in 1963 with her husband and son,Bill, from Goose Bay Labrador Air Force Base wearing a parka in June having just left a blizzard. Loving central Florida, they made it their permanent home, after buying their first home in south Orlando. Adelaide inspired many other family members to move to Central Florida over the years. Adelaide worked as a senior clerk for the British West Indies Central Labor Organization, who sponsored temporary workers to pick Florida's sugar and citrus crops each year. She was their advocate for just wages and compensation for work injuries. She was honored by the Barbados government for her advocacy. Adelaide was a devoted, faithful, loving wife, mother and grandmother, and brought joy to her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and loved to share her recipes. She always seemed to have a smile on her lips and a kind word for everyone. She and her husband were active in the Central Florida Duplicate Bridge community. After retirement, she was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren, Jennifer and William. Jennifer Sbicca MD is a Dermatologist in Ft. Collins, CO, where she lives with her husband, Dr. Joshua Sbicca, an assistant professor of Sociology at Colorado State University. Both attained their doctorates at the University of Florida. William, who graduated from Duke University with a degree in Physics and Economics, works for the Howard Hughes Medical Research Institute as a software engineer. Adelaide was predeceased by her brother John Grieshaber of Fern Park. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Ronnie Tluczek of Maitland. Her son William J. Grisaitis MD, a Dermatologist in Maitland, Fl is proud to have had such a wonderful mother and friend. She instilled in him a strong sense of the equality and goodness of all people and has been a role model on how to treat all you meet in life as equals with an open heart. Her daughter in law, Anne K. Claiborne MD, a Radiologist specializing in Women's Imaging, loved Adelaide as a second mother. Adelaide always treated Anne as a daughter, and being an accomplished seamstress she created many a beautiful outfit for Anne over the years. Her loving spirit will continue on in the values that she instilled by her example in her family, friends and everyday contacts. She was an example to those around her of the power of love and prayer as lived by the Christian faith she so deeply believed in. Funeral services will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church on Saturday, January 21 at 1 PM (1020 Montgomery Rd, Longwood) with Fr Stephen Parkes celebrating the Funeral Mass. I am so sorry for your loss. Although I didn't know your mother she must have been a special lady given how outstanding her children and grandchildren are. May you always remember the good times with her.

I met Adelaide and Bill many years ago when they were friends of Micky and Tom Delaney. I remember Adelaide being a very special person that was easy to speak to and told interesting stories. My mom and dad have been gone well over 20 years, yet I have no problem remembering the Grisaitis. Know that I thought of you often and remember happy times at our home. I am sorry I was unable to attend the funeral, My thoughts an prayers are will each of you.
