GROSS
ALBERT June 2, 2013. Son of the late Louis Gross and Bess Eisenberg Gross. Born May 20, 1924. Husband of the late Jacqueline Fishman Gross; and the late Phyllis Nimoityn Schwartz Gross; father of Maurice Gross (Keith Case), Marlyn "Cookie" (Robert) Gillespie, Mark (Joy) Schwartz, Karen (Natan) Abraham, Steven (Iris) Schwartz and Joel (Susan) Schwartz; brother of Peggy (Leonard) Greenberg, Joan (late Stanley) Gross and Eugene (late Lois) Gross; especially proud Zayde to Logan and Rachel, Jackie, Jon, Ali, Dana, Josh, Jodi, Jamie, Jessica, Jeremy, Rachel and Noah; also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom made his life meaningful.
Mr. Gross was an 18 year old who served in the 42nd Rainbow Division in Europe where he was part of the lilber-ation of Dachau Concentration Camp. Upon his return from the War, he joined his father as a partner in the Ambler Market. In 1961, they, along with his brother Gene, opened the Thriftway on Girard Ave. Al and Gene went on to open the Port Richmond Thriftway until they retired after a 38 year partnership.
Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Tuesday, 1 P.M. precisely, GOLDSTEINS' ROSENBERG'S RAPHAEL SACKS SUBURBAN NORTH, 310 Second St. Pike, Southampton. Int. Roosevelt Memorial Park. Shiva will be observed Tuesday through Thursday at the home of Maurice Gross and Keith Case. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Abington Memorial Hospital Hospice Program, 2510 Maryland Rd., Suite 250, Willow Grove PA 19090, or Camp Rising Sun, 2300 Menaul, Albuquerque NM 87107, or Wordsworth Spirit Program, Attn. Stephanie Shell, 3905 Ford Rd., Phila. PA 19131.

We are missing a hero of WWII. PFC Albert Gross, later Staff Sergeant, served in Companies F and I of the 232nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd Infantry "Rainbow" Division and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in action on 10 March 1945 near Lichtenberg, France.

I was sorry to hear about Al. I met him when I was a teller at Provident at 6th and SpringGarden Sts in 1976. He was one of the best, a real gentleman.
