One of my fondest memories connected to Uncle Al was being at the lodge near Lake City, swimming in the enormous pool, wandering the property and then eating frog legs for dinner, courtesy of the pond frogs Uncle Al and my dad had gigged. I also remember the laughter and fun our families shared around the campfire at Higgins Lake one summer. My sincere condolences to the Matus family.

I have many fond memories of “Uncle” Al from my youth. He was jovial and enjoyed the camaraderie of the gang during the years he went to Canada on yearly fishing trips and the occasional deer hunting trip. He enjoyed food, a good joke, shore lunches, and wetting a line. (I still have a couple of recipes he made on our fishing and hunting trips.) I fondly remember the times my Dad would take Mark and I along with him and Al to St. Michael's Men's club events, our little league baseball games,...
