McAulay and Wallace Mortuary - Fullerton - Fullerton Obituary

Alice Josephine (Goodrich) White, 85 of Fullerton, CA left this world peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at Silverado Memory Care, Brea, CA. She was the wife of the late Edward James White of Candler, North Carolina.

Alice was born in Wallingford, CT July 5, 1935 and was one of 15 children of the late Edwin and Mary (Chappo) Goodrich. She was a 1957 graduate of Lyman Hall High School, Wallingford, Connecticut. Alice’s first job was an accounts payable clerk with Masonicare, and a dental assistant with Dr. Biega in Wallingford.

Alice met her late husband Ed while working at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, Connecticut. After marriage, they settled down in Marlborough, CT where she worked at George Denler Realty. Alice was a devoted mother to her children, a Cub Scout and Brownies leader, and participated in a women’s softball league.

In 1970, Alice relocated to Florida with her husband. In North Palm Beach, Florida, she volunteered as a substitute teacher at North Palm Beach Elementary and prepared lunch meals at St. Clare Catholic School. After moving to Florida, Alice resumed her employment with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach. Alice, along with her beloved husband Ed, loved to entertain family and friends at their home in Jupiter, Florida. Alice loved sports and coached her daughter’s softball team.

After the couple’s retirement, they moved to Candler, North Carolina. In her spare time, Alice followed eagle nest cams, took long walks with her dog Taffy, listened to Irish music, danced the polka like no other, followed her favorite football teams, the Carolina Panthers, and the Miami Dolphins, assisted with the construction of a dog park, created the first Goodrich Family Directory, scrapbooked, and read historical novels. Alice looked forward to the opportunity to hold a baby in her arms, had an open heart and an outstretched hand to help those in need, and was devoted to the care of her husband while he battled cancer for ten years.

Alice is survived by her children, Mary White-Jasper and her husband, Bernard of Fullerton, California and Edward M. White and his wife Ella of Hendersonville, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; her sisters, Dorothy Hodas of Connecticut, Jean Stannard of Virginia, Kathleen De Corso of Alaska, Mary Placanica of Maryland; and her brothers, Mark Goodrich of Florida, and Robert Goodrich of New York; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward White of 48 years, her most trusted canine friend, Taffy of 17 years, her sister, Irene McMahon, and brothers, Roy, Edwin, Harold, Frank, John, Quentin, and Richard Goodrich.

Family and friends are welcome to attend funeral services, April 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Juliana Catholic Church located at 1316 N. Acacia Avenue, Fullerton, CA. This will be followed by a burial service at St. John cemetery, Wallingford, Connecticut at a future date.
