Not sure what to say?

Allen played a major influence in my life, not only because I was a piano student of his along with other contemporaries like the late Paul Riedo, but also from my ongoing exposure to his compositional brilliance while I was a young chorister in the famed Cathedral Boys Choir that performed many of his works including his triumphant Mass of the High Holy Days, his massive oratorio Xristus written for full orchestra, two choirs and pipe organ, and other great pieces that we performed for high...

Allen ('Mr. Hobbs' as I called him) was an incredible person and piano teacher. I studied with him when I was 15 years old. He was just the right amount of strict, supportive and quirky that I needed. I had had a wonderful teacher for 2 years as a child that had moved away, and then he was replaced with a horrible teacher who would smack my hands with a ruler every time I made a mistake in a lesson. After that horrific experience as a child, I had quit piano after just 3 months with that...

Allen was a very influential force in my life. I studied with him for only a few years, but knew him for 43 years. Allen set the stage for much of my musical career in Denver and was instrumental in shaping my musical taste. I'll always be grateful to him. Requiescat in pace.

It has lost the official curator of the historic organ at the Denver Cathedral. It has lost a tireless champion and expert musicologist of French organ music, and an unstinting champion of French language and culture, whose efforts were recognized by the French government in...

I have many fine memories of Allen. I treasured our conversations, and I am grateful for all the many ways he helped me as a true friend and colleague. Rest in peace.
